You cannot make me happy
Its just the Law of Gravity
Cause theres a break in the cup
That holds love inside of me. . .
Though romantic, perhaps the "Most Inane Movie Line Ever" award goes to Jerry McGuire for "You complete me." Puh-leese.
The fact of the matter is that no matter how compatible a couple may seem, each person is bound to fail. We are naturally selfish. We misunderstand, forget, hurt. And we inevitably expect more from other people than they are able to give. Why?
Recording artist David Wilcox wrote a song about that very phenomenon. We sense that someone else might be able to fill the hole in our hearts that needs mending, and so we search for that someone. Some people search all their lives, jumping from person to person with no commitment and no promise of one; others find a soulmate and settle down, only to find that its completely unfair to expect someone else to meet your needs. In the end, love is about giving and not getting, and so the hole in our hearts stays empty. In Wilcoxs words . . .
Theres a break in the cup that holds love inside us all. . .
"Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
