Israel Sends Aid to Turkey after Earthquake Israel has sent equipment and personnel to Turkey to help survivors of the recent 7.4-magnitude earthquake. The offer and acceptance of aid will hopefully ease tensions between Israel and Turkey, as the relationship between the two countries has been strained ever since the flotilla incident in 2010. Israel sent five portable structures, 2,000 fleece coats and blankets, and inflatable mattresses to help the hundreds of Turks who are currently without shelter in the cold weather. (JPost) Please pray for those who are mourning, injured and/or without shelter after this devastating earthquake. Pray also that Turkey might become a friend and ally of Israel. President Peres Visits Gilad Shalit at Home Shimon Peres recently made his first official visit to Gilad Shalit’s home, praising the soldier for his bravery during his five years in Hamas captivity. Peres said, “The nation of Israel is so happy to have him home. Not many people could have withstood such suffering and emerged standing so tall.” Shalit thanked Peres for his support and for the help given to his parents during their campaign for his release. He said, “I am slowly regaining my strength, and I am happy to be home.” (JPost) Please pray for Gilad Shalit’s complete physical, emotional, and psychological healing. Gilad’s Life Returning to Normal For Gilad Shalit, life in Hamas captivity involved little sunshine and little interaction with people. He said that he was given a radio, a television, and adequate amounts of food – and that he was not tortured. At home, he has enjoyed bike rides, swimming in the ocean, visiting friends, and his mother’s cooking. He has received packages, letters and flowers from around the world. (Haaretz) Hamas Vows to Kidnap More Israeli Soldiers The leader of Hamas’ military wing has threatened to kidnap more Israeli soldiers to be used as bargaining chips for freeing Palestinian prisoners. He said that until all Israeli jails are emptied of Palestinian prisoners (prisoners who have been convicted of terrorist acts and murders), Israeli soldiers can and should be captured. (YNet) Please pray for the protection of Israel’s soldiers, who guard the Land and its people. Holocaust Survivors Seeking Faith Chosen People Ministries staff member Eugene L. visited A. and M., an elderly couple who are Holocaust survivors. A. has lost both of his legs to severe diabetes, and he is often depressed because of this. Seeing him not in the best mood, Eugene mentioned that there is only one way to experience complete peace in any situation – through a relationship with the living God. To his surprise, M. almost jumped out of her chair, begging him to help them believe. It opened a door for a great conversation in which Eugene was able to share his testimony and to explain that Yeshua (Jesus) is the only way to real peace in God's presence. Please pray for A. and M. and other Holocaust survivors who need Messiah. |
