Robert and Joanna Walter
Robert (Bobby) Walter was born in 1981 and grew up in a non-religious home in Bayonne, New Jersey. After graduating high school he left the city and moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania. It was during this time that Bobby surrendered his will and life to the God of Israel. It did not take long before he realized that the Lord had a call on his young life.
Three months later, Bobby found himself in South Florida, home to one of the largest Jewish communities in America. This was far more than a coincidence...the Lord had a plan! In the summer of 2004, two young men were brought into Bobby's life. One was a strong Christian who was overflowing with excitement about his newfound appreciation for the Jewish roots of his faith. The other was an Orthodox Jew who had come to the realization that Jesus was his Messiah. As Bobby spent more time with each of these young men, the Lord's plan began to unfold. Looking back, Bobby reflects, "I can see now that the Lord was showing me the fruits of a ministry that would eventually become my life's pursuit."
Bobby began attending Beth Sar Shalom, a congregation planted by Chosen People Ministries. It was here that his relationship with the Mission began, as well as his relationship with Joanna. Seeking to dig deeper into God's Word, Bobby enrolled into the ministry program at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in December 2006, and was selected "The Outstanding Graduate for the School of Ministry." Joanna also attended the University and she too graduated May 2007 as "The Outstanding Student for Biblical Studies." In January of 2007 they were both accepted on staff with Chosen People Ministries and on March 4, 2007 they were married.
Bobby and Joanna are interning with seasoned workers in the field of Jewish missions, and Joanna is working as the new administrative assistant for Chosen People Ministries' Florida staff. They have both served with the ministry's short term missions programs in Israel and New York in addition to their active involvement in Beth Sar Shalom Congregation. They understand that their future is in God's hands, and they have devoted the rest of their lives to serving Him. Their upcoming plans include attending seminary and eventually starting a family.
As Gentile believers called to Jewish ministry, they have a great burden to share with churches the desperate need for Jewish evangelism, teaching the Bible from its Hebrew roots, and sharing their passion to see Romans 1:16 fulfilled. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek."
