Thank you for supporting Chosen People Ministries in this summer’s Shalom New York! You helped us minister to Jewish people through two major evening outreach events and teams working in the heart of Manhattan and Brooklyn, which included specialized outreaches to the ultra-Orthodox and Russian Jewish communities.
Mark was among the 127 volunteers who touched the lives of [XXX] Jewish people! But he had a special goal for Shalom New York: he felt a deep calling to share Messiah with the Haredim, or “ultra-Orthodox.” Of the 15 million Jewish people in the world today, about 2 million are Haredim.
Sharing Messiah with the Haredim is challenging, both because of their suspicion of missionaries, and also because their Torah-observant, rule-dependent lifestyle sometimes isolates them from Gentiles and even other Jewish people. But Mark had faith that he would be able to speak with these precious people—and his Shalom New York T-shirt made it possible!
A Haredi man on the street was intrigued by the shirt and said, “Shalom!” to Mark. He was curious about the outreach, and Mark had the opportunity to share the message of Messiah with him!
It often takes prolonged discussion and relationship-building to help a Jewish person come to know Messiah. This is intensified when speaking of the Haredim, but we know a seed of Truth was planted, and we are believing it will bear fruit.
