The Shalom Conference:

Finding Peace in a Troubled World

We live in turbulent and troubled times. There is an absence of peace around the globe, marked by violent wars, lawlessness, social and political conflict, divisive culture wars, family strife, and a myriad of other assaults upon the souls of individual men and women.

We often understand peace as the lack of conflict and strife. It is an elusive quality of life humankind commonly desires and seeks.

Is it even possible to find peace today?

We believe it is. Shalom, the Hebrew word for peace, implies so much more than our usual understanding of the word. It describes a sense of well-being, relational harmony, emotional and spiritual prosperity, wholeness, and completeness.

Peace according to the Bible

True peace, as the Bible describes, is not found in an abundance of material goods, relationships, human knowledge, or success. The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, present a soul-satisfying and enduring peace only found in knowing the Messiah of Israel, Yeshua.

He is the Prince of Peace who said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful” (John 14:27).

Ultimately, the shalom of God will fill a restored earth when His Messiah returns to establish His kingdom of peace. We look forward to His coming! The prophet Isaiah describes the coming peace in these well-known words,

And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little boy will lead them. Also the cow and the bear will graze, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Then in that day the nations will resort to the root of Jesse, who will stand as a signal for the peoples; and His resting place will be glorious. (Isa 11:6–10)

Isaiah also prophesied, “And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, and never again will they learn war” (Isa 2:4).

Finding Peace Today

But how do we find shalom today? How can we help our friends and neighbors find it as well?

At our “Finding Shalom in a Troubled World” conference, we will explore the topic from a variety of perspectives. The schedule features main sessions, worship, testimonies, and small workshops. Our prayer is attendees will find practical and more authentic pathways to peace, and then be able to pass this along to others.

We plan to address the following questions: How can we find peace in the midst of a troubled world? How can we discover peace for ourselves, our families, for the church, and the nations? How can we help others, especially those who might not know the Prince of Peace personally, experience shalom as well?

We encourage attendees to bring their not-yet-believing friends for the entire conference or at least the Saturday evening “free” event.

“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3–4).
